SUMMARY:All Burn Wax & Edible Art Pop-In
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exciting two-part Pop-In-From-The-Neighborhood event with All Burn Wax and Edible Art by Natsuko. \nALL BURN WAX \nWhile All Burn Wax\, established in March of 2022\, began as distraction during the Coronavirus pandemic\, the hobby quickly turned into a true passion for making non-toxic\, organic soy candles. Founder Diana Aalberg discovered her calling in the art of candle making – enjoying the unexpected nuance that it takes to create a cohesive Pacific Northwest-inspired scent. In the last three years\, she has continued to grow\, boosting her online presence and expanding the business\, eventually moving into a brick-and-mortar location in the heart of downtown Portland across from the Powells Bookstore. You can find a range of their products for sale inside the Powells\, or you can visit their website to see the full collection of candles\, room sprays\, plants\, and artisanal AAPI/BIPOC crafts. \nThe brand is committed to including zero-waste products in the line\, and Diana still hand pours every candle and room spray in her home studio to ensure each candle burns clean and bright. She has spent the last three years cultivating her line of candles and room sprays made with safe ingredients and a modernist aesthetic. This woman-owned company has worked hard to build a small but loyal customer base who just can’t get enough of these local products. \nEDIBLE ART BY NATSUKO \nEdible Art by Natsuko seeks to bring you the art of traditional Japanese Confectionery\, known as Wagashi. Intricately designed to be pleasing to the eye as well as the mouth\, each of these sweets are hand crafted and inspired by the seasons. The founder has always loved Japanese Confectioneries\, a love that began in childhood. From simple mochi daifuku\, to elaborately sculpted nerikiri\, to the gummy crunchiness of crystal kohakutou\, they all have a special place on the menu. \nAs each miniature piece of art must eventually be eaten\, their fleeting nature makes them all the more beautiful. \nJoin us in welcoming these two local businesses to campus for a pop-up product tabling just in time for the holiday season!

SUMMARY:Carlton Observatory Pop-In-From-The-Neighborhood
DESCRIPTION:The Carlton Observatory Project started in 2017 as an abstract aspiration\, hatched by a desire to place a valuable scientific asset in the rural Yamhill county as a resource to cultivate broad community connections and encourage creative scientific exploration. As they rolled out their most impressive assets–both telescopes and the engaging minds behind them–they quickly discovered how eager the local (and even regional!) community is to form a like-minded curiosity with the night sky and all the information it holds. \nLocated on501c3 on the campus of the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville\, Oregon\, this 501c3 organization is designed to attract curious minds of all ages. Their facility features interactive experiences such as an observatory and planetarium\, as well as an indoor\, multi-use facility. As the mission states:  We’re fostering an engaged\, imaginative and scientifically literate community. \nIn honor the September Epsilon Perseid meteor shower\, The Carlton Observatory team will be joining us for a special pop-up during lunch\, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge about the cosmos\, the opportunity to purchase your very own star\, and information about events and programs at the observatory!

SUMMARY:Strawberry Shortbread Pop-Up
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis Thursday from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. we will be offering a house-made strawberry shortbread dessert paired with our weekly barbecue lunch on the patio. Scroll down to preview Chef Gabe’s shortbread biscuit recipe! \n \n  \n  \nINGREDIENTS: \n\n2 cups (248g) all-purpose flour\n2 ½ teaspoons baking powder\n½ teaspoon salt\n2 tablespoon granulated sugar\n1 ½ cups (356ml) heavy whipping cream\n\n  \nINSTRUCTIONS: \n\nPreheat oven to 425°F. Grease a cookie sheet with butter or shortening.\nWhisk flour\, baking powder\, salt and sugar in a large bowl.\nAdd the heavy whipping cream and stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough comes together. It should become a thick dough and if needed\, use your hands to finish working it together.\nUsing two spoons\, scoop out and drop biscuits on prepared cookie sheets. Depending on size\, you’ll get about 8 biscuits\, unless you want them smaller.\nBake for about 14-16 minutes\, or until the tops and bottoms are golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through. I recommend rotating the pan halfway through baking for even cooking. Cool biscuits before serving.
